Strong tremors shook tall buildings in India’s capital New Delhi on Tuesday, sending people running into the streets, Reuters witnesses said.A powerful quake has shaken Iran near the border with Pakistan just a week after another tremor hit the country. The earthquake was strong enough to be felt all across the Gulf region and as far as India’s capital, New Delhi.
The epicenter is located some 90km southeast of the city of Khash, according to the US Geological survey. The quake struck deep underground, more than 15km from the surface.
No immediate damage report is available. However, Khash is a populous city, which had over 56,000 residents as of 2006. The city is capital of the Sistan and Baluchestan Province, one of Iran’s poorest.
Last Tuesday Iran endured a strong earthquake that struck near Bushehr. It killed almost 40 people and left hundreds injured.
